the flower bearers
The tribe Anthophorini contains ~700 species spread throughout all continents but Antarctica. From mountaintops to rain forests to deserts, members of these bees are valuable pollinators for diverse plant communities across a broad spectrum of environments. The omnipresence of this group and the variability of the species within make Anthophorini an ideal group for a wide array of comparative studies.
For Anthophora alone, I have collated a data set of >25,000 specimen records (focused on the western US). Perhaps most valuable are the records pertaining to common, widespread species such as Anthophora urbana (>7,000 records), which may serve as meaningful indicators for analyses of distributional and demographic changes in bees over time.
